How a gift to the Society in your Will can help support needy seafarers’ families in years to come.

Throughout its history the Society has always benefited from people’s generosity and from their legacies.

Our Family Support Scheme receives no government funding and depends totally on generous donations and legacies to keep it running.

In 1875 it cost the Society £6/8/2d to support a child for one year at our Newland Homes in Hull. Today it costs a minimum of £778 a year to support each needy seafarer's family. Will you help with a legacy gift in your Will?

Frequently Asked Questions

bullet Q: What is the best way of helping Sailors' Families' Society in my Will?
A: The most tax effective way of helping the Sailors' Families' Society in your Will is to leave a share of your estate.  This is known as a Residuary Legacy.  It is a very easy way of giving and also means that you don’t have to worry about inflation which can affect specific sums of money left in you Will.  Leaving a percentage of the residue also means you may not necessarily have to change your Will if your personal circumstances change.

bullet Q: Why is Legacy funding so special?
A:  Sailors' Families' Society receives no government funding; this means that we are heavily dependent upon voluntary donations.  Knowing that someone has included us in their Will allows us to plan ahead with more confidence.  It is a great reassurance for both staff and families, to know that there will be funding for us to continue our essential work in the future.

bullet Q: Do I need to let Sailors' Families' Society know about my legacy?
A:  If you feel able to notify us about your gift, it is a great aid to our work.  It helps significantly with our future planning and also lets us know that we do not need to contact you again about legacies.
